Welcome Sarah

This art quilt was made in honor of our first granddaughter, Sarah Catherine Clarke. The center photo is the first one taken of her in the hospital and I was so touched by the gentleness that I needed to capture it in more than a photograph. The faces and background are muslin with pastels creating the shading and skintones, as well as the shadows. The piece is heavily accented with threadpainting to enhance the "cartoon" effect that I created from the original photo in Photoshop. "Welcome Sarah" won an Honorable Mention award at the HVAC Women's Stories:Quilts juried exhibit, August 2007.
